BioI'm a horse-crazy misfit and I wouldn't have it any other way :D
Welcome to my equestrian livejournal! I also have a personal LJ under the name 'stephndel', but this one is purely dedicated to my horsey adventures (and misadventures). So if you're not a horsey person then this probably won't interest you very much at all!
I own a 15.3hh bay TB gelding named Loui. Loui can be a cheeky brat, but he's gorgeous. He used to belong to my best friend, but now he is staying with me until further notice while she sorts out some major life setbacks. I have owned four horses in the past - far and away the best was my beautiful QH mare, Delta Song. Del and I were together for almost five years, and it was a match made in heaven. She changed my life for the better. I was devastated to lose her to colic (intestinal tumour) in September 2004. I still miss her more than words can describe.
My favourite breeds are the Quarter Horse and the Clydesdale, and I am definitely a mare person! I love all disciplines - my favourite is eventing, and my least favourite is showjumping (only because I have trouble remembering the course!). I have a very soft spot for freestyle dressage, and Anky is my idol! My favourite rider of all time is Megan Jones, closely followed by Gill Rolton. My favourite trainer is David Simons, and I'm also a huge fan of Monty and Pat! I've been a member of both pony club and adult riding club, but haven't ridden at rallies for ages because I haven't been able to transport Loui - hopefully that will change soon! :D
My best equestrian experiences to date have been riding Delta in a couple of city street parades (never thought I'd get to ride my horse down King William Street, but there you go!), coming second in the PC State Champs ODE on Del in 2001, and riding my friend's mare, Rinny, in a musical ride at the Gawler Horse Festival. I was also very honoured to be able to have a ride on Megan Jones's top eventer, KP Irish Jester. He was a real sweetheart!
Because I am so obsessed with horses, I run a club called Horse Crazy Australia. We do a lot of fundraising for horse welfare in Australia. We've had some great support from Horsewyse magazine, and I can't thank Vicki (the editor) enough for that!
